Today, I convinced a federal judge in the Northern District of Illinois to unfreeze three accounts totaling $1,070,889. My clients, three online merchants on the Alibaba platform, had their bank accounts frozen for two months. I, and my co-counsel Lan Li, filed motions to unfreeze the accounts, which are the subject of a preliminary injunction. Judge Manish Shah agreed with our arguments regarding the inequity of freezing accounts worth more than a million dollars for the sales of a mere three infringing items. This ruling marks a critical victory for Alibaba merchants who cannot access their online accounts and the money that is rightfully theirs.
